iPhones are one of the most secure smartphones today. Apple prides itself in providing a secure environment for users so that they can store all their data without any hassle. Moreover, the Cupertino-based tech giant has additional security measures in place in case you ever lose your iPhone. Features such as Find my iPhone helps you to track your iPhone in case it gets lost or stolen, and Activation Lock prevents any unauthorized person from accessing or erasing your iPhone.

But what happens when you want to erase your iPhone but don’t remember the password? Is there no way to recover your password or bypass it entirely to wipe your phone clean? Well, there is. Apple has a few measures in place for you to either recover your forgotten password, or reset your iPhone without using one. 

How to reset Apple ID password?

Resetting your password is not complicated if you know your Apple ID. However, if you forgot what it is, you can go to Apple’s website and look it up.

When you enter a new password, keep in mind that Apple requires it to be at least eight characters long and include a number and an upper- and lowercase letter. But if you want to have an untraceable password, try our password generator.

Reset your Apple ID password on your iPhone or iPad

If you have access to your iPhone or iPad, you can reset apple id password with your device.

  • Go to the Settings app.
  • Select [your name] > Sign-in & Security > Change Password.
  • If you are signed into iCloud and have a passcode enabled, you will be prompted to enter the passcode for your device. If you are not signed into iCloud on your device, you’ll have to choose another password reset method.
  • Follow the onscreen steps to reset your password.

Reset your Apple ID password on your Mac

If you have access to your Mac, you can reset your Apple ID password on your computer.

If you have a Mac running macOS Ventura or later:

  • Choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Apple ID.
  • Select Password & Security.
  • If you’re asked to enter your Apple ID password, click Forgot password and follow the onscreen steps to reset your password.

If you are not asked to enter your Apple ID password, select Change Password. Before you can reset your Apple ID password, you’ll be required to enter the password you used to unlock your Mac.

Reset your Apple ID password from another Apple device that doesn’t use your Apple ID

If you have access to an iPhone or iPad running iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 or later, you can reset your phone using an Apple device that doesn’t use your Apple ID. You can use a friend or family member’s device or one at an Apple Store.

For iOS 17 or iPadOS 17:

  • Go to the iforgot.apple.com webpage on your friend’s device.
  • Tap Reset Password, then follow the steps on your screen.
  • Tap Help Someone Else.
  • Input your email or phone number.
  • Confirm your email address.
  • Follow the steps on your screen to input a new password.

For iOS 15 or 15 or iPadOS 15 or 16:

  • Open the App Store app. Search for Apple Support and download it on your friend’s device.
  • Open the Apple Support on iforgot.apple.com. Scroll down to Support Tools.
  • Tap Reset Password, then follow the steps on your screen.
  • Tap Help Someone Else.
  • Input your email or phone number.
  • Confirm your email address.
  • Follow the steps on your screen to input a new password.

Reset your Apple ID password from another Apple device that uses your Apple ID

  • Go to the Apple ID account page (https://appleid.apple.com/) and click on the Sign In button.
  • Select Forgot password.
  • Enter your email or phone number and the characters in the coded image.
  • Confirm your email address.
  • If you have access to another Apple device that uses your Apple ID, you will see a Reset Password notification. Tap or click on it and then select Allow or Show.

Follow the steps to recover your password from there.
